Be Your Own Cheerleader

One thing I am learning to love is affirmations. Affirmations are little nuggets of confidence you can give yourself. Quotes, messages, even little drawings, can all be affirmations. Like intentions, I recommend placing affirmations all over your home and on your phone and in your planner and in your car. Yes, you need the support of others, but also mentally you need to believe in yourself.

Using affirmations is a great practice for self talk. Many of us lean towards more negative self talk which can become a self fulfilling prophecy for your goals. If we are saying kind and motivating things to ourselves, we are much more likely to ace those goals.

Beyond just written affirmations, remember to be kind to yourself. If you don’t hit a particular running time, don’t talk down on yourself. Remember where you started and rejoice in the achievement of any improvement. You are working and learning and growing. Not all hacks work for each person. You are figuring it out and adapting. Be proud of that!

Bonus hack: Every tried a power pose? Look them up. It might seem silly, but research shows power poses boost confidence and help achieve goals. Give that a shot the next time you’re feeling down and out on a goal!
