Routine, Routine, Routine
Wondering why you’re a week into the new year and already you’re contemplating abandoning your goals and dreams because they’re hard or exhausting or just don’t fit into your time schedule? The issue may be the fact that you’re working on building new routines.
If you’re struggling, now may be the time to create a new morning and evening routine. If you already have routines, it becomes much easier to insert a part of your goal into the routine, but if not, it may take some work. Much like your muscle memory knowing to grab a towel when you get out of the shower, we want to create that same muscle memory with your goals.
A routine creates muscle memory because your brain begins to cut corners where it can. Routines allow your brain to cut those corners because you’ve done the same thing over and over and over again. You no longer have to think about it, it just happens.
If you’re looking for a simple routine to start out consider the following:
- Get up
- Coffee and Breakfast
- Have quiet time to read the bible, a self improvement book, meditate, etc.
- Quick workout
- Shower and dress for the day
You can do your routine however works best for you, but just make sure that they are simple things that you do each morning anyway, adding only one new unique item to the pattern!
